AMATSU THERAPY COULD GIVE YOU RELIEF FROM YOUR MIGRAINES & HEADACHES

5/12/2018

Headaches and migraines are caused by a variety of reasons. Some are brought on by stress and muscle tension, others by tiredness, inappropriate food choices, postural issues or high blood pressure. All long standing or very severe headaches should be brought to the attention of your general practitioner. There's good news though, Amatsu Therapy treatments can be very effective at reducing the severity and frequency of migraine attacks or regular chronic headaches, particularly those caused by muscular tension or stress. Read on to find out more.

Posture plays an important part in the triggering of headaches and migraines caused by muscular tension.  A slumped posture, with rounded shoulders, causes an important muscle in the lower back to switch off. This muscle is called the “psoas” muscle. One of the jobs of the psoas muscle is to give a lovely curve to your lower back, and another job is to kick your leg forward as if to walk, or kick a football. If the psoas muscle is switched off, the curve in the lower back (the lumbar curve) flattens, which causes the shoulders to structurally roll forward, even without you slumping. This natural effect is due to “Biotensegrity”.  As the shoulders become more rounded, the head and jaw tend to jut forwards and up as they try to keep your head and neck at its natural level. This puts great tension and pressure on the muscles supporting the head and neck, which can then trigger a migraine or headache.

How can Amatsu Therapy help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with migraines and headaches?

Amatsu Therapy works on the “soft tissues” of the body - the muscles, ligaments and fascia. It aims to loosen over-tight muscles and wake up muscles that are not working optimally. This restores correct tensions and removes any abnormal twists and pulls within the body that may have come about through either bad posture or adaptations caused by stress, strain or injury.  Every body will take different compensatory measures to continue to hold itself and thus function, as best it can. This means that every body has different structural imbalances and there's no one same fix in the treatment of headaches and migraines. Ultimately, a balanced and aligned body is one that can be free from pain and discomfort.

What will an Amatsu Therapy treatment be like for someone who suffers with migraines or chronic headaches?
The range of motion of the head, neck, jaw and shoulders will be assessed, and the function of the muscles that span these areas will be tested. The muscles and ligaments of the pelvis are always assessed during any Amatsu Therapy treatment, as pelvic stability is core to being able to establish long lasting balance within the rest of the body. The all important psoas muscle will most certainly be checked.

During a treatment, an Amatsu practitioner will ascertain the most effective way to restore balance back to the body with minimum intervention. This is because the body integrates minimal corrections far better, leading to longer lasting results.  Amatsu Therapy corrections use specific movement and massage, applied uniquely with natural body movement, to relax tight muscles or to strengthen those muscles that are struggling to work optimally. These corrections could be in a different part of the body from where your problem is felt i.e. the head, neck and shoulders, but local massage and movement to these areas is usually also required.

Amatsu Therapy gives the body exactly the right reminder it needs at the time of treatment to heal itself.  Often it will take more than one treatment to retrain your body on how it should align itself naturally.  Once migraines and chronic headaches are under control, regular maintenance treatments will be required to keep symptoms at bay.  As with any health condition, Amatsu Therapy will look at your Godai to understand what factors in your lifestyle may be causing your body to be pulled or pushed out of balance. Once such factors are understood, it may, or may not be, possible to eliminate or reduce them, giving your body more chance of staying balanced for longer.  It's the extent to which this is possible that answers the question of how often your body will need an Amatsu Therapy treatment.
Hope you've found this blog post article interesting. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions and please do share with anyone you know who suffers with regular headaches or migraines.

Best wishes

AMATSU THERAPY - NEW TREATMENT IN NEWBURY BERKSHIRE FOR THE RELIEF OF BAD BACK PAIN

5/12/2018

Amatsu Therapy is a soft tissue therapy that can be very effective at reducing back pain and improving mobility with potentially long lasting results.

Picture
Back pain is something that most of us have experienced at one time or other, with varying levels of pain, discomfort and restrictive movement. Sometimes the cause can be obvious and the resulting back pain immediate, such as being involved in an accident, falling over, overdoing it in the gym or twisting awkwardly. Other times though, we may wake up with chronic back pain and not be able to put our finger on what’s caused it. Either way, back pain impacts all areas of life, not just physical movement but emotions, energy, daily living, occupation, hobbies, and how we interact with others. The quicker we can reduce, and hopefully, alleviate back pain, the better.

Amatsu Therapy uses a range of assessment techniques to find out how the body has adapted in its quest to protect you and keep you moving after stress, strain, injury or trauma. Once the problem has been fully understood, specific movement and massage is applied, using natural body movement, to loosen over-tight muscles or fascia and wake up muscles that aren’t working optimally. Treatment restores correct tensions and compressions within the body allowing the whole physical structure, through Biotensegrity, to realign. Muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments can once again work naturally, and in turn, joints and organs can ‘float’ in their own space and can function efficiently.

We see a large number of clients with bad backs in our Amatsu clinics across the UK. It’s very common that our clients come to us having tried many different treatments. We’re often a last resort, but one that can actually work! The ambition, as more practitioners come through our award winning Amatsu Training School, is to become the “go to” name for treating back pain and other structural health conditions.
~ Gina, Chair of Amatsu Therapy International (UK)
Amatsu is a gentle treatment, involving no cracking or clicking of joints and is suitable for all ages. Amatsu treats where the body needs treating which is not necessarily where pain is experienced. Amatsu practitioners like me, take a full medical history, fully consider contraindications to treatment and will make further referrals if necessary. The sooner you come for an Amatsu treatment post stress, strain, trauma or injury, the quicker the root cause of the problem can be treated. The longer you leave it, the more your body compensates for the initial problem by holding you differently and putting tension where there shouldn’t be tension. This coping mechanism makes you feel that you’re dealing with the stress, strain, injury or trauma, but the body can only compensate so much, therefore in time, the body says ‘enough is enough’ and pain becomes chronic. This is why you can sometimes wake up one day, not be able to move and don’t understand why. At this stage, more treatments will be necessary, as each treatment peels off another layer of compensation.

AMATSU THERAPY & OSTEOARTHRITIS

27/5/2018

Arthritis comes in many forms and can be a debilitating disease. Pain and restricted movement impacts all areas of life: physical movement, emotions, activities of daily living, occupation and how we interact with others. There's good news though, Amatsu Therapy treatments can provide some relief from the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Read on to find out how.
If joints are under the wrong tension due to injuries, muscle imbalances or postural bias, there will be friction on areas of the bones where there shouldn’t be friction. This causes the shiny surface of the bone, the articular cartilage, to wear. Doctors often call this “wear and tear”. Over many years, this causes degeneration or breakdown of the joint, which results in inflammation and quite often pain and discomfort. This is then known as arthritis.  The body is designed so that, if aligned properly, there is enough padding in the appropriate places to protect against normal wear and tear. It's when the body goes out of kilter through stress, strain, injury or trauma, that the problems begin.

How can Amatsu Therapy help alleviate the symptoms of Osteoarthritis?

Amatsu works on the soft tissues around the joint – the muscles, ligaments and fascia - to loosen over-tight muscles and wake up muscles that aren't working optimally. This restores the correct tensions and removes any abnormal twists and pulls on the joints. This in turns takes the pressure off the areas that are ‘rubbing’ together.  We do not put joints back into position, this happens naturally when correct tensions are restored during an Amatsu Therapy treatment by a process called ‘Biotensegrity’. As Amatsu Therapy practitioners our aim is to get joints “floating” so that the joint has plenty of room around it and the bones move exactly as they were designed to, supported by ligaments at the right tension, and bones therefore do not rub together when the body moves. Accompanying stiffness can also be improved so that overall joint and therefore body mobility increases and pain reduces.  Once under control, regular maintenance treatments can keep the symptoms of arthritis at bay.

What will an Amatsu Therapy treatment be like for someone with arthritis?

Amatsu Therapy will fully assess the joints concerned; it will check the balance of the muscles surrounding the joint and it'll also test the joint's range of motion. Assessment is not limited though to just the affected joint.  The muscles and ligaments of the pelvis and limbs will also be evaluated to ascertain the most effective way to restore balance back to the whole body, with minimum intervention. The body integrates minimal corrections far better leading to longer lasting results, which is why we choose the most appropriate part of the body to treat first; this may not necessarily be where the most pain is felt or where limited mobility is experienced the most.
